Description
This interactive exhibit consists of four stations, each equipped with a 42-inch touch screen monitor and a larger "results view" projection screen. Visitors are invited to select one of three missions: design a military drone that flies higher, design a home-built kit plane that flies fasters, or design a giant cargo plane that can carry more weight.
The first step on each mission involves selecting the aircraft components in a 3D engineering software environment. Visitors can drag and swap out wings, engines, fuselage and airplane materials, while the projection screen displays in real-time the impact of their decisions on their plane's aerodynamics properties.
Once satisfied with their design, visitors test fly their airplane over a North Texas landscape to see whether it meets mission requirements.
